7 Ways By Which A Journey To Mars Can Kill You

Being a martian isn’t that easy and mars is everyone’s first priority when a discussion rises to become an multiplanetary specie.

We are not pessimist but there are concerns which needs attention when its about taking a trip to “Mars”

The next Space frontier for spaceflight to Mars is obvious.

We heard a lot great personalities and organizations of Today that ‘

We have to go to ‘Mars’ And these are the people  to save humanity. And Many great personalities are working on it and are in support of it. And they are:-

  1. Mr.Elon Musk
  2. Former President of (USA) Mr.Barack Obama
  3. NASA etc.

So when Vox interview a NASA scientist Chris McKay ( A Senior Scientist at NASA’s Ames Research Center) because he involved in the planing of future Mars Missions and he described some of the hazard which may took place.

HERE ARE THE TOP 7 REASON THAT HOW A TRIP TO MARS COULD KILL YOU

Reason no.1 – Your Rocket will burn into flames while leaving Earth and it is pretty obvious. NASA has a track record of sending astronauts to Space but we also know that there have been tragedies. For some context, The NASA space Shuttle program carried 833 people to orbit between 1981-2011,of which 14 people died in two big explosions. And if we talk about SpaceX which we respect a lot but still we have to say their experience with their rocket explosions is quite horrifying when we thought of going to Mars in a Falcon spacecraft or any other of SpaceX.

Reason no.2 – Even if you successfully leave earth, there are still some dangers in that Journey to Mars. The biggest danger is ‘Radiation Exposure‘!  Because the vacuum of space is not really empty. There is radiation emitting from the sun and goes out in all directions. There are Gamma Rays, X Rays and Ultra violent light. And all these things can damage our cells. Here on Earth we have a dense atmosphere and magnetic field which helps to keep this radiations out form our lives. And according to Space reports there is more radiations on Mars comparatively to earth.

Reason no.3 –  You can crash on Mars Surface while trying to land. It is Because the atmosphere on MARS is a lot thinner. If you ask how much thinner then it is “100×” This makes the air cushion weak and a system needs to develop to tackle this situation.

Reason no.4 –  Mars low gravity can also wreak havoc on your bones and muscles. This is not theoretical, many astronauts who spend 6 months or more in space station has vision has vision loss that doesn’t get corrected. There was an astronaut who went to 20/20 perfect vision and came back with 20/100 vision just in 6 months. Not only this , your muscle start to deteriorate, your bones start to deteriorate, and this can be saved by some regular exercise, but NASA yet haven’t found any permanent solution to this problem.

Reason no.5 –  Your Space suit or habitat could leak, and you just can’t breathe martian air. Any crack in your house or any slit in your space suit will lead it to depressurize.

A slit on the glass of your space suit will expose you too harmful radiations and you will die. (Image Source- VoX)

Reason no.6 –  The soil of mars is toxic which literary means it can kill you. You might have seen the movie “The Martian” where Mark Watney grows potatoes but we probably shouldn’t do that in real because it contains a very high concentrations of chemical called Perchlorates. These are salts which can do serious damage to human body, especially the thyroid. You wouldn’t want to grow your potatoes in it.

You really can't grow Potatoes like Mark Watney

Reason no.7 – ‘Your fellow travelers could drive you crazy’ Even for NASA its a huge challenge. If there’s going to be mutiny or interpersonal strive or Mars that is an element that could be the riskiest of all. There was this project called Biosphere 2 in 1994 which teaches experience of living in a space colony. It was a seven person crew, and they split up into warring factions and the mission had to end prematurely. So it will take some time and effort to find out those people who are right for this mission.

A Thing To Remember

The first people who go to Mars should go with the expectations that they might never come back.

But the drive among people regarding going to mars will never end.

But there are Two questions along with their answers.

Q1- So will a trip to Mars be great?

Ans – Absolutely

Q2- Should we go?

Ans – Absolutely
